  1. It means that people who follow convention, especially women, rarely get noticed. For example, would a run-of-the-mill 1800's carpenter get into the history books unless he chopped a block of wood that eventually had a major impact on society?

  2. Wise Gal, your examples just prove the truth of the saying.  Princess Di was tossed into a loveless marriage, but instead of desperately trying to win her husband's affections, she made the best of the situation and used her position to help the needy.

As for Mother Teresa, joining a convent and trekking around third world countries is not exactly society's definition of a "good girl".

Rosa Parks and Harriet Tubman both broke the law.  If they hadn't, society might be different now and you'd never have heard of them.

  3. I have always heard it said that well behaved women rarely make history.  I think that it means that you must break out of what soceity requires you to be to leave a mark on the world.  If you look in the history books a high percentage of the women in them would not have been considered well behaved in their days.

  4. That is sooooo not true! Thier some really awsome women out there. They may not be perfect but they are considered GOOD WOMEN in my book.

For example....Princess Di. She was so giving and helpful and gentle. She helped many many many people around the world. Same thing with Mother Teresa.  Harriet Tubman, Rosa parks, theres many.

  5. women who step out of the nor get into history books...name a SAHM who lived to love her husband and kids....who is in the history books.  it doesnt happen

Elizabeth the First: Gained the thrown by birth right at the age of 21...she was pushed to get married her whole life.  She refused over and over again.

If she had gotten married her husband would have taken control of the thrown..she would have lost her power and become a baby machine....do you think she would have been anything to the history books as a baby machine?

Princess Dia: is the opposite of what a princess is suppose to be she came from a middle class back ground and pretty much rebelled the people loved her the thrown did not(bad)

Harriet Tubman: helped with the under ground rail road...that was illegal (bad)

Rosa parks: refused to move from her seat as was expected of her. (bad)

Mother Therese....well she was a saint got me there.

It's not BAD like evil...it's bad as in non conforming.
