Question:

Good Golf Practice Tools- when you can't get to the range?

I have been playing golf for about 6 or 7 years. I'm shooting in the low to mid 80's and trying to get over the hump and into the 70's this year.

I know there are literally hundreds of golf gimmicks out there to help your swing. My swing is good, but I have learned that consistancy keeps me sharp.

What do you think is the best swing tool (net, wiffle balls, something I'm haven't heard of) that will allow me to practice, when I can't be on the course? I have a back yard, but no place to hit full irons.

Please list brand and information on anything you suggest.

Thanks,

  1. practice your short game in your backyard

  2. The Point3 golf balls by Dave Pelz are supposed to be good.  They behave like normal golf balls, but go a third of the distance.  www.pelzgolf.com, I believe.

You can also get yourself 3 PVC pipes and a T-joint, and build yourself an alignment aid for your stance.  Use that along with wiffle or point3 balls to make sure your set up for each club is correct.

  3. I use the wiffle balls, but if you have more room, they have the 1/3rd flight balls, that are really good.  I tried them, but they flew about 15 yards to far and landed in my neighbors yard behind mine.  At least they are soft and wont break anything.

Also, I like the medicus, I don't really hit with it, but at least I practice my take away and my down swing.  I notices that if I swing it for 15 minutes before playing a round, I usually play better.

  4. Try swinging a weighted club.  Your muscles really stay sharp and smooth out some jerks you may have in your swing.  It also helps in staying flexible above your hips.

  5. Go outside just swing each club 20 times twice a day. 5 quarter rotations and work my way up. Use a tee, but no ball
