  1. Here are the four restaurants I would recommend.  I'm not sure whether they'd fall into your definition of inexpensive or not - what people consider inexpensive varies a lot.  Lunches at buffets are always less expensive, particularly on week days.  Each of these restaurants has unique things about it -- it just depends on what you're looking for and where you're at in the city.  If you are particularly interested in healthiness, El Pinto and Sadies both serve very good whole beans rather than refried beans, though refries may be an option at Sadies, I'm not sure.

El Pinto is a very nice restaurant to go to.  They have beautiful large outdoor patios, an indoor garden room and other indoor seating.  In cold weather, part of their outdoor patio is enclosed and heated.  Their food is very good and both the red and green chile are available in mild and hot choices.  For those who are unsure, you can also get your chile on the side.  The restaurant is huge and seating is usually fairly quick, though there can be a wait.  They have a nice large bar and general waiting area where chips and salsa (complementary) are available as well as drinks.  The area is large and open and not really a "bar" atmosphere.  They also have a nice all-you-can-eat lunch buffet during the week (not sure about Saturday) and they have a nice champagne brunch on Sunday.

Sadie's is a local favorite, but their food is *quite* (spicy) hot.  If you don't like really hot food, this may not be the place for you.  This restaurant is smaller than the one above, though still good sized, but it has gotten to the point where you should expect a wait of 45 minutes to more than an hour unless you go at a really off time.  They have a small bar for waiting, but it is very difficult to get a seat in there, especially since some people eat their meals in there, so a lot of the waiting is in a small waiting area or standing room.  Their food is very good also.

Gardunos has five locations in the city and has very good food as do the above.  Each of these is a little different in style of food.  Gardunios has more Mexican decor and on weekends has mariachi players that go around the restaurant.  It's great for the atmosphere, but on days when the mariachi is playing, it is more difficult to hold a conversation.  They have a lunch buffet during the week and a huge brunch buffet on weekends.

Papa Felipe's has very good food, but they tend to have more unusual dishes and less traditional style of food. I really like some of their less traditional dishes, but I haven't tried their more traditional dishes in quite a few years.  They've recently remodeled and I haven't been there since the remodeling.  Out of the four, this is probably the least expensive, but also the restaurant I am least likely to take visiting guests to.
