  1. Try finding one that's NAEYC Accredited you can look at http://www.naeyc.org/academy/web%5Fready... to find one in your area.

  2. Try calling your elementary school, social service agencies and churches.  That should give you a list to check out.  Then call the different programs and ask about their licensing.  Ask what credentials their teachers hold and what curriculum they use.  Ask what the children's schedule is, and try to observe a class in progress.  Ask if you might be eligible for subsidized care, and ask if the school has a pre-k program (if it does, there's probably no cost to parents).  Don't over-look Head Start.  They often have excellent programs.  And even though they are income-qualified, they often accept over-income families for a variety of reasons.

Once you have selected a program, plan to volunteer some time in the classroom on a regular basis.  That way you will see first hand what your child is experiencing.  An involved parent is the best insurance for a child's educational success!

  3. No personal experience, but have you checked into this?

Please keep in mind that many daycare/preschools have an "actual preschool" program within their program with qualified teachers.  Also, a good preschool may not necessarily have "guidelines and lessons". A good preschool curriculum is play-based and you will need to visit and talk to teachers to discover how they approach teaching things like math, reading, etc (which I'm guessing is what you're referring to).  The teachers may have written lesson plans, but there will be very little direct teaching at this age.
