all my buds have road bikes and invite me to bike to the lake with them alot and im behind on my mountain bike. This bike is cheap and i have some okay experience on road bikes. I think this is a cheap way to have a good enough road bike to go with them. they have bikes ranging from 400-600 dollars. Im not looking for expensive top dollar racers i just want a good bike and something i could use in a time trial. nothing serious

  1. Shimano Tourney and Sora are not mid-level.

Look for a 2nd hand aluminium bike on eBay. 2-3 years old. You should be able to find a steal.

  2. if you are in a decent sized city, look in craigslist.  find a road bike that is your size.  you can find one with good shimano 105 components well in your range.  i recently bot a cannondale with 105 stuff.  it cost the owner over $900 new about 4 years ago.  i'm guessing it had less than 1000 miles when he finally decided to get it out of his garage.  i paid $450.  plus it came with extra tires and good clipless pedals, bottle cage, computer and under seat bag.  so $1000 for $400.

  3. Sora is entry level in terms of quality components. Tourney is even lower than that. Want a good entry level road bike? Look at entry- level bikes that are used from a brand that you could buy at a bike shop- Trek, Specialized, Felt, Jamis, Fuji, Scott, etc. Still to much? Look at Bikes Direct and go from there. You're going to pay at least $400 for a decent quality road bike with Sora components brand new.  I've seen older trek 1000s going for around $300-350. Felt F90s ac ouple of years old are priced about the same as the Trek. The GMC bike isn't even good for an entry-level rider. If you want a bike that you will want to ride, avoid that one.
