Question:

Good Specs for a vista laptop?

Okay, so I want to get a MacBook, but I'm not sure if I have the money for it, so I'm looking into windows laptops. I was wondering what you think are the minimum requirements for windows vista home premium on a laptop. I hear that vista is very demanding. What is the smallest sized hard drive I should get? Should I get at least 2GB of RAM or 3? What processor should it have?

I would be using the laptop for typing up school assignments (I would use openoffice.org writer) Going on the internet (I use Firefox for that) listening to music (iTunes for putting music on my ipod and Limewire for downloading music) and instant messaging. (AIM and possibly MSN) I would also be putting pictures on it (I'm getting into photography) and editing videos (which I upload onto youtube)

I know that's a lot, but I'm trying to be as specific as I can so that I can find a good laptop that will last and I won't regret buying.

  1. 1gb of ram will run Vista fine, but 2 is preferred. If you are going to purchase Vista Premium, don't worry about getting 4gb of ram. Only Vista Ultimate can process that much memory. For a HD, I would suggest an 120gb, if you are going to put a big amount of music on to your laptop.Don't worry if you don't find a laptop with a lot of HD space, you can always purchase an external one if you feel you need extra Hard Drive space.

Below I've listed a few laptops under $800, in case you have a tight budget.

    Hope this helps.

  2. if you want vista then i can't argue, its what you want, you should make sure the laptop has 2GB of memory or more and either an AMD or Intel processor which is a dual core and has 2.0ghz speed

  3. I have a Dell PC with Vista that runs very well on 3GB's of RAM but you can go to the Microsoft website and it will give you more information on what a PC needs to run well as far as RAM is concerned for your Vista PC and what applications you will need to handle the particular task's you are wanting for your PC.

  4. Using good and Vista in the same sentence is an oxymoron.

Never-the-less, if you insist on buying a laptop with Vista, get one with 3 GB or RAM - you will need it. The Intel Dual Core is a good processor.

Check out one of the "Big Box" stores for specials on laptops. I have seen some HP's on sale pretty cheap.

  5. Take this good advice, get one with XP, 2GB of memory and a large hard drive, unless you like slow computing then go with Vista.
