  1. absolute best choice(IMO)is the Suzuki 400 cc Motard  I think it is a  drz400M or DRZ400S not sure which but for a guy yu size they are great not so much power to scare you but once you get good they will out handle most sport bikes in the twistys

    check this out http://www.pashnit.com/bikes/SuzukiDRZ-m...

and forget about a $1000 a year for maintenance the rest of what arns said was right on but I spend less that $1000 in the last 3 years and that was averaging 7k a year. learn to do all your owe service and it is like $10 for an oil change $12 for air filter. use a product call drylube on your chain and you will need to replace the chain about every 6-8k depending on you ride style thats about $45. but what you will end up spending is easily a $1000 a year on goodies to tweek your bike and safty gear.   All Your Gear All The Time  aygatt

  2. go sit on a few.. your butt will know when it feels right... and yes 250 is small

  3. for all motorcycle new riders:

    1) Take the Motorcycle Saftey Foundation course (prior to looking at any bike to purchase. Learn to ride first) http://www.msf-usa.org

    2) Start small; buy used - its not going to be the last bike you buy. YOU will drop it, so better to drop a bike on something you didn't spend too much money on, and on something that is already used.

    3) Suggested new rider bikes:

    Suzuki GS500F

    Kawasaki Ninja 250

    Kawasaki Ninja 500r

    Vulcan 500

    Honda Shadow 500

    4) take your list of interested bikes and shop around with insurance companies. It may not be cheap to insure a bike, and this goes into your decision in how much you want to spend on a bike.

    5) BUY Gear. No less than a helmet, good riding jacket, gloves and a pair of over-the-ankle boots.

    6) budget out $1000 - for repairs a year.

And a Ninaj 250 isn't small at all. I've seen 6' 285lb guys handle the bike just fine (its rated to hold up to 430 lbs without trouble).

  4. if u are looking for a good starter bike i am selling mine it is a aprilia rs 250 year 2000 and only 9000miles for more info email me at ronane11@yahoo.com
