I'm looking for a bike suitable for a beginner that has the whole street bike look. Ive seen the Ninja 500's and all, but I want something that looks more like a cbr600rr, I would settle on that bike but from what Ive been told its not good for beginners. Thanks!

  1. You really don't want to get something that looks all that nice for your first bike b/c something will happen, alfter a few months you can sell it if you don't like the styling and get a bigger one, but I would reccamend starting on a smallet one then upgrading. Would you rather take your chance at crashing a Honda CBR600 or a Ninja 250 or 500.  The new 08' Ninja 250's styling is like the CBR. My point is you can ALLWAYS upgrade to a bigger bike, so why start out big? I started out on a 1982 Honda CM250 Custom, it moved right along for a 250. After a few months I upgraded and I'm glad I got the small one first. Yes you acn learn on a bigger bike but it is much harder and slower and you have a lot bigger chance of getting hurt.

  2. have you ridden off road bikes before? supersport bikes like the 600rr can be very hard to learn on, i'm in australia and the test i had to do to get my bike licence required  a 250 to start with then move up to any capacity after a year. as far as 250's go the better ones are the VTR250 ( honda), thats what i started on and it was a dream as far as 250's go. but the gpx250 and zzr250 from kawasaki are good also ( there full fairing bikes).

But if your not restricted to engine size the easier bikes would be the mid capacity sports tourers. Alot of people get the supersport bikes like the 600rr before there ready and end up planting them side down into the blacktop because there very much pure racing bikes, slightly downtuned and with plates.

  3. CBR styling would be tough for a beginners bike.  If you take the MSF course (which I am sure you will), a Ninja 650 wouldn't be too bad of a bike as a starter.  Price isn't that much over a 500; however, the used market is a little dry on the 650's right now.
