Question:

Good Way to Deal With Neighbor's Dog?

I recently moved to a new city in order to take a promotion for my job. I'm in a completely different area than I was before, with housed nearly on top of each other, as opposed to the acre lots in my old neighborhood.

The problem comes in with the size of the yards, and my neighbor's dog. I go to work at 2 in the morning, so I am not at home to tend to it during the day. When I get home, there are dog droppings in spots, toys laying about, etc. It's troublesome after working 14 hours to pick them up, yet I don't know what to say to the owners because they bought the dog for their mentally retarded son.

I have tried a number of things like a fence, but the neighborhood does not allow it. I have heard that benadryl is a good sedative for animals, so I put about 30 in a piece of american cheese and left it on my driveway a few minutes back. However, this is only a temporary fix.

What else can I do to keep this dog off my property? I was thinking of just taking it and driving it to the woods about 20 miles away with some water and food. Would it be able to survive out there? I don't want to hurt it.

  1. Very nice.

How about just asking your neighbor to keep the dog out of your yard.

Not drugging it and probably killing the poor thing, I hope that they find out what you did and press charges.

  2. Benedryl should NoT be given to dogs.  I would just talk to the owners.  Tell them, calmly and nicely, what their dog is doing.

Don't just drive the dog away!!  That is not your dog and if caught, you could pay a hefty fine and/or spend a lot of time in jail.  Then that promotion will go down the drain.  No, it would definitely not survive out their.  It's just toys and p**p.  Walk around it if you have to.  Take a flashlight.

ADD:  By the way, you DO have a fence you troll!!  Your last question was about benedryl, stupid troll.

  3. Ask them to put up an invisible fence for the dog. If the dog gets too close to the wire - it'll shock / spray the dog so it doesn't leave the boundaries. Explain that your paying x amount of money per month / year for your land, and you don't appreciate their dog on it. You can obviously say it a lot nicer, but just be honest. Explain why you don't like it and then settle for something. :) Good luck.

Please don't leave their dog out in the woods =(  They and their son will miss it!

  4. get rid of it,

or call your landlord and tell him/her about the dog.

Ask your neighbour to get it off your property, or you could get the spray stuff and spray it all over your yard,

its like a low cap spray, i spray it on my dogs beds so they wont chew it, it works for horses as well i got it from a pet shop, its call crib stop, it works but make sure when you spray it, cover your mouth with a towel because its really bad.

or get an electric fence lol.

  5. If the dog ate that benadryl you probably won't have to worry about the dog anymore, you just killed it. You may have to worry about cruelty charges though.

Most places have leash laws. Ask them nicely to keep there dog in their yard. If they won't report it.

  6. Well drugging someone else's dog isn't a very good idea...especially if they find out about it.

Regardless of who they bought the dog for, if their son is incapable of taking responsibility for the dog, then it's up to the parents.  You have to go to them.

  7. This guy just likes to stir the pot...don't answer his stupid questions

  8. Okay, let me get this straight. You possibly gave the dog about 30 benadryl and you don't want to hurt it? And if you drive it 20 miles away to a wooded area, just how much food and water are you thinking about leaving this dog? I'm only asking because I know you don't want to hurt it.

Get real. You have too much time on your hands if you can sit and think up this load of doggie doo.

  9. Are you stupid? 30 benadryl will probally kill it. Ask them to chain it up. Im sure theres a leash law. Setting it out with food & water or without is cruel. and besides you could get in trouble for theft which if you set it out i hope you do. Id kill someone if they done that to my dog. call animal control or your spca

  10. No don't you do that to that dog that kid needs and loves that dog...and just by saying that on here you can go to jail if you know anything you would know it's aganist the law to dump a dog..just ask them to keep it in and out of your yard or you'll turn them in for the dog running loose.

  11. OMG, depending on the size of your neighbors dog..you just killed it! Why would you want to sedate it anyway? I give my 40lb dog 1/2 a childrens benadryl when her flea allergys are really bad and it knocks her out cold, GO GET THAT OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY! and dont drive a mentally challenged child's dog into the woods, what is wrong with you?

It was your choice to move to that house, if you didnt want a neighbor with a dog then you shouldnt have moved there. Its your problem, not the dogs.

Go talk to your neighbors about your complaints, im sure if they realized there was a monster lurking next door that would poisen their dog they would keep him inside...they'd probably keep the kid away from you too!

and no, the dog would not be able to survive in the wild. and yes, you have already hurt it. If he did eat the cheese you have a moral responsibility to go over and tell the people and to pay the vet bills, if he even makes it to the vet.
