Question:

Good acoustic guitars?

Hey there,

My family's going to buy an acoustic guitar to keep at my summer house and I was wondering what the best acoustic guitar brands are. I know all the good electric guitars, but I'm not too certain on acoustics. I know Taylor, Martin, etc. make good acoustics, but I was wondering what the best one is.

Thanks

  1. I'd advise trying to play the classical guitar until you get a feel for it and you learn how to play it. Acoustic has steel strings that will just shred your fingers, but classical has nylon strings. If you learn to play classical, you can play acoustic. That's what I'm doing right now.

  2. A lot of this would depend on your budget for one.  The woods used on an acoustic guitar greatly play an impact as to what type of sound the guitar will have, as well as the size of the body of the guitar.

If you add some additional information to this question, with budget being the main thing, I can gladly edit this post with what I feel would be some guitars worth looking into.  Also, is this guitar for you, and do you have any experience already playing guitar?

  3. Although I learned on and played Gibson acoustic for many years I am biased toward Martins--then Taylors--as being the best acoustics for my style of playing.

    That doesn't mean that you wouldn't be satisfied with a Gibson J-45, a J45/50, or a J100.

The LG-3 Gibson that I learned to play and then the J45-50 that I used in many of my professional gigs will endure the worst and the best of times. Nevertheless, my favorite acoustic is now the HD-35 Martin.

I strongly recommend you test-play all the different brands that you can. Then you can better make up your mind.
