I have to run dementia care tomorrow at my work (a nursing home). Any good ideas of games or activities that would be good to do with the men and women suffering from dementia?

  1. sing a longs. Older people love sing a longs. I'm sure the nursing home has some ole time song books.

If they are fairly lucid try a writing group.  For instance ask people where they grew up.  If they can't write, you do it or tell a group story. One person starts then another continues..

Alot is dependenton the cognitive abilities of the group.

You could declare it a TBD activity and ask them what they'd like to do..

OMG  an oldmovie, like Gone with the Wind would be great.

    Good luck

  2. Music from there younger years!

  3. When  my mom was in the nursing home they really seemed to like it when some would bring a dog to visit. I saw  folks that wouldn't talk to people talk to the dogs.

  4. My mother in law had dementia and I would go to "Toys R Us" and get activities such as stringing yarn into cardboard prints that had holes in them.  She love doing things with her hands.

I would also buy Play Dough and she would model things with her hands.

Child's Bingo, Art's and Crafts, Coloring, Finger Painting, Making things with Popsicle sticks.

Any activity that a child under the age of 12 can accomplish is stimulating for anyone with dementia.

  5. I found a couple of activities that I think are pretty interesting. In fact I will check them out and see if Dad enjoys them. Thanks for asking!
