Question:

Good adoption gifts for an adult adoption?

My step father is finally getting to adopt me after 13 years of waiting! I would like to get him a gift for after the hearing, but can't come up with any good ideas. He does not wear jewelry, and I am not too keen on a book. I'm 20, so I don't really want anything "kid" like...which is what i'm finding most. Thanks for the help!

  1. How about writing him a letter letting him know what this means to you.  You could include it with a framed picture of the two of you.

  2. I think a letter written from the heart is a wonderful idea.

There are also many items out there that have the saying "Anyone can be a Dad, but it takes someone special to be a Father".  Perhaps you can find a gift - maybe even a photo frame with a photo of the two of you - with that saying.

    Congrats on your adoption!

  3. You could get him a teeshirt that says #1 dad. Or, give him a card and write your own message about how it doesnt take a birth dad to be a father etc. and how happy you are now. Or, while you dont like books, you could make a scrap book of photos of the two of you leading up to your adoption day, leaving that page with out the last photo so you can put a photo of the two of you after making the adoption official.

Or, if he likes some thing imparticular, like golfing for instance, get something monogrammed for him. Like if he were in to golf, you could buy him a golf club and have it engraved with some thing like "to commemorate the day you became not just my dad, but also my father' and put the date on it.

Hope this gives you some off the cuff ideas. Good luck!

  4. That is wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe you can go to a trophy shop and have a plaque made for him.

    Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Good for you!

Something sentimental would be perfect.  Maybe a framed poem that's appropriate for the occasion?  How about something simple like a coffee mug with 'World's Greatest Dad" on it?

I don't think you should go for anything elaborate.  Stick with sentimental.

  6. Yes, I would write him a letter letting him know exactly how you feel.  How much he means to you and how happy you are to be in his life.  Make sure you call him dad if you haven't already.  You could also give him a picture of the two of you.  What a great thing.
