My husband and I and our 9 month old daughter plan on moving to colorado (probably colorado springs) in about 4-5 months. I was curious if anyone could tell me a little more about living in colorado? Is it a good place to raise our daughter?

  1. It will be a good place to raise your daughter, due to a decent educational system and a fairly low crime rate.

Its going to be cold and there will be lots of snow, but the sun shines for most of the winter. The views and the clean air will do wonders for your health and peace of mind.

There is an abunance of wildlife. There are cougars, bears and wolves. Out of those I would say the cougar poses the biggest threat. Wolves and bears will do their best to stay away from you, make lots of noise if you go hiking and you should be fine.

Theres also great recreational activities that you can get involved in, such as skiing and snowboarding, you may enjoy snowmobiling, hiking. Dont worry its not always cold, but dont expect a hot climate or anything.

I'll leave all this up for you to decide wether or not its a good place, its just depends on your preferance. I live in Florida right now and would gladly trade florida for colorado. I am a cold wether and mountains kind of person. Good Luck!

  2. It's cold and snows and freezes like all getout!!  Denver is so smoggy you can taste it.  If you live in the mountains, you fight deep snow and 45 below temperatures.  If you live in the Front Range, you breathe fumes that can kill you in time.  We lived there for 12 years and now live in beautiful Shasta County, California, where we can play outdoors all year long.

Colorado Springs is the PITS. If you must live there, go to Boulder or Cortez.

  3. I don't know where Donald gets his info. Colorado is a wonderful place to live and raise a family. I grew up in Ft. Collins and have lived in Montana, Alaska and Arizona. I was thrilled when we moved back to Colorado. Colorado Springs is a nice medium size city. It has a very large military presence. Boulder is full of pot smoking, drugged out trust fund baby hypocrites. There is a reason why people move to Colorado and don't leave. There is also a reason people are flocking out of California.

  4. I think living in Colorado Springs is great, and would be a nice place to raise kids.  There are many beautiful parks and trails, the air is clean, the views of the mountains are amazing.  The weather is mild, dry, and mostly sunny.  I see many families "out and about" enjoying the outdoors together.

I've also found that because a lot of people move here, it's easy to find others who are new to town, and the "natives" seem to be welcoming.

Like any city, you'll have your less desirable spots.  Just don't spend time there.  A great website to visit to see photo tours of neighborhoods in Colorado Springs is called hellocoloradosprings.com.

Gives you a nice "feel" of many neighborhoods.

    Good luck!
