Good and cheap accommodation in the city centre of Barcelona?

I am going to visit Barcelona for a few days in April. I would like to stay in the city centre of Barcelona in a clean and affordable place. Could you please recommend any hostals, pensions, hotels, etc that you might have stayed there or have heard about?

I stayed at this hotel when visiting Barcelona and it was cheap but still nice and right of Las Ramblas so perfect.  I would e-mail them and ask if they have any offers on as they sometimes do:

Have you looked at a Lonely Planet book?  They list hotels, hostels, etc and give feedback about what to expect.  When I went to Spain, I photocopied a couple pages of accomodations and selected my top two or three.  Then when I arrived in the city, I knew what my top choices were.   Reservations aren't always optional or reliable, but if you have a few options and aren't traveling during Semana Santa, you'll be sure to find something.
