i am 21 yr old, single male on a very small budget planning to move to montreal next year. i know i have some time but i want to know what areas are the best. i live in manitoba right now.

im learning french at the moment but am not very good at it so an english speaking area with low rent, access to public transportation, shops, restaurants is preferred. not much of a drinker so a quiet place with no drunks around is also good.

im also g*y and plan on being open about it after i move there. i know montreal is a very cool and open minded city and so id rather NOT live in an entirely g*y dominated area (sometimes g*y people can drive me crazy..lol) so an area thats cool with g*y people would be awesome.

i know i seem to be asking for a lot..lol. i just feel that montreal is the place for me..ive heard soo many good things about it. thanks in advance everyone!!

Bonne journee!

  1. Hey,

Well, good for you to take a step in your life that will make you happy.  As for moving to Montreal, you really need to have the French language, because you will have issues getting a job, because remember that even a low-level job requires you to speak to the people of that province.

I have close family from Montreal and some of them love Montreal and the others don't really like it at all...

for example, the relative that disliked it found it to be difficult to find jobs, secure a good role to allow herself to move up the ranks,

whereas another relative loves it, meanwhile she is not successful at all, smokes like a chimney and has not been able to secure any sort of stable future!  To her, clubbing and partying is her focus. (nothing wrong with that, tho)

Perhaps you should rethink Montreal and come to Toronto instead!

-There are tonnes of jobs in Toronto

-you do not have to worry about the French language

-there are plenty of diverse people living here, inlcuding visible minorities, g**s, etc

-Toronto is awesome for partying as well, with tonnes of fun places and clubs, bars, etc

-your French will help you secure something in Toronto even more easily

    Good luck!

  2. Well, I don't know if you're aware of this or not but the g*y area of Montreal is primarily located on the east side of town, which is predominantly a French speaking neighborhood, would you believe.

You don't speak French (yet!) - you don't drink?

What good are you? Just kidding!

I can't think of a place close to shops and restaurants and close to downtown also and near a g*y community that's also ethnically diverse with no drunks around -  besides maybe the McGill Ghetto.

You really ought to come to Montreal and see for yourself before taking such a drastic step by moving here!

    Just a thought.

    Good luck to you though!
