i really need a 1860 wellington map. can anyone please help me? i don't have any encyclopedias. i've tried searching in the internet.. but to no avail. can someone please direct me to a site which shows wellington in the 1860??

  1. where is wellington. kidding. see if this helps.       Thomas Wing (1810-88) first came to New Zealand as chief officer of the Independence in 1834. Returning to England in command of the same ship he was interviewed and commissioned by the British Admiralty to carry out a number of surveys of New Zealand harbours. This work occupied Wing for three years and was mainly carried out in the f***y.

    In 1844, Wing was selected by Colonel Wakefie1d to convey in his brigantine, the Deborah, officials of the New Zealand Land Company, from Nelson to Otago when that part of the colony was purchased: [fn.1]  During this period, Wing was closely associated with Frederick Tuckett the New Zealand Company surveyor.

    In 1858 Wing was appointed harbourmaster of the Manukau, a post he held until his death at Onehunga in 1888.
