Question:

Good audition songs for alto with low range?

Hey everyone, I've got a music audition coming up, and I'm trying really hard to find a good song to sing!

I'm an alto with a middle/very low range, and my voice sounds the best, and nmost powerful, when the music is in that range.

The audition calls for an artist that could sing music now, so I'm trying to avoid classic songs, but if a good one comes up, I would consider it.

Any ideas? Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  1. Shine on me. Candle on the Water.

  2. I've got an oldie if you wish:  Kathleen Ferrier sang 'Blow the wind Southerly'.  She was a brilliant singer and very low; born in Walton le Dale near Preston, Lancashire and died quite young.

  3. Very good question.

    Hello Questioner,

My Advice to you is for you to use anything that has low range like a rock song or if you really need a low alto song consider "Impossible dream" sang in Man of La Mancha by Brian Strokes Mitchell. The rest is up to you... good luck in the audition. aight.

    LATEZ

  4. A lot of Cher's songs are lower range.

Having said that, I would work on stretching your range, one tone pitch at a time so you don't strain it.  That rich, powerful alto tone would not be lost, and your improved range would suddenly give you a much wider possible repertoire of songs.

  5. Look into some Karen Carpenter songs.

"Goodbye to Love" is a favorite of mine.

She'd still be making music if she hadn't tragically succumbed to anorexia...
