Hi,

Does anyone know of any car that can be bought used that does not waste gas, is low maintenance, affordable, and still last a long time? If you could at least tell me which brands to trust and which to never get, that would be helpful.

Thank you

  1. for $4,000

    look for

98 Acura CL, 98 Ford Mustang V6, 98 Honda Accord or Civic, 98 Nissan Frontier or Pathfinder, 98 Subaru Impreza or Legacy, 98 -00 Toyota Corolla or Echo 00

  2. Most of the time it is NOT the car but the maintenance.  But having said that my 94 Civic has 187K miles and still runs like new.  I get 41 MPG (doing 72 MPH - so I should do even better at 55).

The parts and labor is pretty cheap and most problem can be fixed easily (not so simple nor cheap on my Audi A4).

So if that says anything about Honda Civic...

Which ever car you get, you still have to do your part in maintenance:  There are 4 most important maintenance items in your engine and tranny (the most expensive parts of the car).

    (1) engine oil (3k - 5K miles)

    (2) tranny oil (30K miles)

    (3) coolant (3 years)

    (4) timing belt (60K miles)

Just keep those maintenance and your engine and tranny will be problem free.

    Good maintenance pays off.

    Good Luck...

  3. my first vehicle after my liscense was a jeep...not the best choice, but its what we had! the car that i have had so far that has been a nice little car was a hyundai. it was tiny. it was ugly. but i drove every where and only filled the tank every week or two.

the best first car shouldnt be about looks. as long as it gets you where you need to go and you can afford to take care of it. the hyundai was the ugliest little car, with rust spots every where, but it did its job and got me where i needed to go. it it was very low maintenence. and with gas prices still on the rise, its the perfect thing to be driving, except a motorcycle!!

  4. Either a Honda or a Toyota are pretty good cars. The Suzuki Forenza is good also.

  5. **A little Hyundai is a good first car.  They're nice and small and they're fairly easy on the gas.  They're also cheap to buy brand new which is a plus.  A lot of young peopl, especially young girls buy them as their first car.

Another sort that is a good little car is the Toyota Corolla.  I would recommend them because they have a good reputation and last a long time.

Don't be concerned about how the car looks as long as it gets you from a to b.**
