Good bike brand and model?

I'm looking for a hardtail bike from a reputable manufacturer. which brand and model are good? i would like it to be under $500 if possible(thinking about ebaying it) and i am a biking fanatic so a good brand would be nice.

you can check out the GT avalanche or kona blast

both have reasonably good parts for the price.

and are very good starter bikes.

if its your first bike, dont get it from ebay. get it from a reputable bike shop. if any problems that you dont know, you can ask them for help.
