Question:

Good book for begginer hand gun owner?

I'm going to buy and soon to own a small pocket Kel-tek semi-automatic 9mm with finger triggered laser device.

Friend of mine is a former navy seal and a licenced gun dealer and a former federal law enforcement officer.

He is going to teach me how to safely operate the gun and teach me the basic safety, legality, etc.

He is going to keep the gun until I feel comfortable with it, at which time he'll transfer the ownership to me.

Of course I'll get a hand gun licence.

I'm telling you this, so that you do not think I'm just an idiot who just want to own a hand gun.

I'm serious about self protection and being able to responsibly carry a hand gun. Actually I'm a little nervous about it.

But to make a long story short, are there any good books I can read about responsible hand gun use and ownership?

I don't want to shoot myself for one thing, and I'm hoping that I'll never ever have to use it on someone unless I'm in a life threatening situation!!

  1. There are plenty of shooting books out there that will teach you the basics. It's good to see that you are safety conscious. You'll pick up the basics fairly easily. All it takes is practice. The most important thing to remember is that shooting is a learned, muscle memory, perishable skill. You can't get proficient with your weapon and then put it on a shelf for a year and then expect to be a dead shot again. Consistency is the key to life....and shooting. Good Luck.
