Good book that is also a movie for 10th grade summer reading?

i have to read a book that is also a movie, summarize them, and compare the similarities and differences. any good ideas? i want something thats fun to watch/read, and also something that will be good for school (my friend is doing the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, but i think that type of thing is too girly.. )

My experience with biographical films, such as "Marie Antoinette" and "The Other Boleyn Girl" is that for the facts, one should opt to read biographies, rather than biographical novels.
