Good campgrounds less than 4 hours drive from NYC?

Just want to go with a group of friends, throw down a few tents, maybe start a camp fire and drink some beers. Looking to spend no more than like $50/night and I figured I'd be there for a weekend. I'd prefer one 4 hours or less from NYC but something outstanding elsewhere would be appreciated. If you can give some information about it. Thanks in advance!

  1. New York City?

Ho ho ha ha hee hee.....

    Central Park?

  2. you can get to the adirondacks in that amount of time..you can probably get to lake placid in about 4-4 1/2 hours especially once you get out of nyc traffic then its clear sailing along scenic highways... i suggest you guys take a 3 day wknd and head to lake placid--thats where the biggest mtns of the adk's are, you can tour olympic village and the campsites are less than $50--you can get a lean-to for $30 peak season...

...but there are others parts of the adk's that are even closer...also, the catskills are only 2 hours away...

    ...but placid is outstanding
