Good cheap sports car for $4000-5000?

Supra aforable ( depends on condintion and year)

or mercury Cougar if you wana get noticed ;)

If you can locate a used RX7 they are fairly reliable and cheap to work on as well.   The rotary engines will go 200,000 miles no problem it they are taken care of.   Very few moving parts.   Also used parts are relatively easy to locate on Ebay if you get in a pinch.

My son has a 1985 RX7 and loves it.   Good gas milage and great fun to drive as well.

Try to ignore all of the posts that are talking about US models and prices, as they obviously did not read your question!

An early Toyota MR2 AW11 will go for about that price.  Some people do not like the looks, others do.  The performance is good for the price.

A Mazda MX-5 or a Toyota MR2 SW20 will start at about $10,000 for one that is quite old but in reasonable condition (ie 1990 models)

An early model Supra (the one based on the angular Celica) will probably be in that range, too.

You will not find a sports Honda for that price except perhaps a CRX (first series, not the targa)

I know they are laughed at a lot, but you might find a Ford Capri in your price range in reasonable condition.  Later models were actually pretty good, but a lot of people do not like the look.

If you are after something more 'old school' then you could look at a Datsun 240Z or 260Z, or a Fiat 124.  They look great but you miss out on the modern features.

Nissan 300ZX. It's probably the second most reliable of all the Japanese sports cars of its time right behind the Toyota Supra which sells for substantially more than a 300ZX these days.
