I currently live in the suburbs of kansas city, and it is impossible to live without a car the public transportation sucks, everything some things are close but most are ten miles away, and the sidewalks and such are non existent in some areas. I have a car now and hate driving, even more hate paying for gas and insurance, where are some good cities to live in without a car. Cities that have good public transportation and arent crazy expensive like NY or LA.

  1. well just look and see what places are close to the house and you will find out

  2. Stay Away:

    Baltimore

    Pittsburgh

    Go To:

    Phoenix

  3. Buy a bicycle!

  4. If you're going to rule out half the continental US, you're also ruling out the older cities which were designed for pedestrian living.

The best cities to live in without a car are probably Chicago, Boston, and New York, and possibly San Francisco. All have excellent public transportation. All are very expensive. Your weather requirements ruled out three of the four.

Maybe a small enough town that you can walk or bike everywhere would suit you. A family member did that for four years and managed just fine.

  5. New York, Boston, Washington DC, San Francisco.

To some extent Los Angeles and San Diego as well, depending on which part of the city.
