Good cities to raise a family?

What are the best cities to raise a family? I mean a safe, comfortable and friendly environment for not too much money. I also want to stay semi-close to my family. Not half an hour drive, but not plane ride, either. They live in North Eastern Pennsylvania.

Where are some good places?

since your values and mine may not be quite the same.  May I suggest a search of "top US cities, safe" ?

Yahoo's search brought up 46,700,000 results,,, in the first 40 are about a dozen that may answer your questions.

You can also do the same type of search by state, just insert the state name in lieu of "US"
