Good colleges for chemical engineering/biochemistry?

I live in Southern California and I would like to know what colleges (preferably public) would be good for a major in chemical engineering or biochemistry. I would especially like to hear from people who have attended the colleges that they recommended but I am still open to all suggestions. Thanks in advance.

UCLA is a great school with great labs for research (although getting grants are very difficult).
