Good compact coffeemaker?

I am looking for a coffeemaker that is compact, makes good coffee, is reliable, cheap (under $40, the cheaper the better though), and would be easy to find at places like wal-mart, target, etc. Does anyone know of such a coffeemaker?

  1. You probably won't like my answer, but I say a "French Press" coffee maker.

You (1) put coffee grounds in the supplied glass carafe, (2) heat water to a boil on the stove, (3) pour the hot water on the coffee and let it steep for about 5 minutes (4) use the supplied plunger and filter to strain the coffee.

Google it and see that this is a very common appliance. Most people opt for the convenient electric thing, which to tell you the truth, with electric coffee makers the cheaper you go the worse the coffee turns out and they don't last long and work consistently. The cheapest would be $20. This is true, especially if you drink coffee on a regular basis. The Press is a small unit, easy to clean, and you can make the same tasting cup everyday.

A French Press will set you back $20 and makes a great cup of coffee. I have had the same one for 12 years and it rocks! You definately could find one a Target, or even online...

  2. How about trying a under-the-counter coffee maker. I purchased mine from Sears for around $49 but you can probably find one cheaper at Wal-mart of Target. I love it because it frees up more counter space.

  3. Krups, but you would have to go to Macy's for it.

  4. Check out  a COFFEE TODDY system .... it makes the very best coffee (with 98% of the caffeine & acid taken out).  You'll get a big plastic container (with funnel on the bottom); woven filters; cork plugs and a glass jar with lid.  You put 1 lb. of coarsely ground coffee & water in the white plastic container and let it set 14 hrs; pull the cork, and the coffee runs out through the filter into the glass jar.  You mix a top-ful of the concentrate with a cup of hot water for the perfect, clean cup of coffee that's always fresh.  The concentrate will keep for several weeks in the refrigerator.  You can get the entire TODDY system for about $40.   (Easy to take jars of concentrate with you to work, etc., and just put into cups of hot water for your fresh cup of coffee)
