  4. I work as a credit analyst and underwriter for a credit card company, and I see this question on Yahoo answers all the time, and based on my professional and my own personal experience, the advice I would offer in your situation.

With the bad rap that credit cards and credit card companies are getting, I would be cautious about choosing one. There are some out there such as Tribute and  First Premier to name a couple that target people with bad or no credit. Granted, you're offered a credit card, but the catch is that these companies charge so many different fees that use up the available credit to where you're owing a bill even before you make your first purchase. Now for some people they don't mind this at all, they're just happy to even get a credit card, but I say if you're really needing a credit card and either have bad credit or no credit at all, a secured credit card is a much safer and easier route. A secured card is exactly as it sounds, you place a deposit which is used as collateral upfront in order to establish a matching credit line. For example, if you deposit $300, then your credit limit would be $300. You can also increase the limit by also adding to the deposit. At some point later on the deposit will be returned, providing that the account is kept in good standing.

Some of the major banks like Citi, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, USBank all offer secured credit cards. From my past personal experience, Bank of America has one of the best secured cards overall. I posted links to all these sites for you to check out.

I thank you for reading and good luck!

  5. Try to get a department store charge card.  Target...Mervyn's...something like that.  I started out with NO credit and Target gave me a $200 charge card.  It later turned into a Visa, and I currently have a $10,000 limit on it.  (I also have about $30K in available credit on other credit cards.)

You can also go to your bank and asked for a secured credit card.  You give them $, say $300, as a deposit on your card, and get a $300 limit.  Then charge your groceries, gas, etc. on it, and pay it monthy.  This will build your credit.

DO NOT get one of those "Capital One" or Cross Country Bank...or ANY of those kinds of credit cards.  Their interest rates are ridiculous, they don't send their bills out on time, so you pay late, so you get a late fee, which pushes you over the limit.  Then you get over the limit fees.  THOSE secured credit cards are scams and they can actually ruin your credit.  Stick to your own bank or credit union.

And ALWAYS read all of the fine print.

  6. NO CREDIT CARDS PERIOD.

Join a credit union and start saving your money via direct deposit. wait a month , get a small loan 500-1000 put the money in your savings account, use it to make timely payments on your loan. pay off correctly. WAHLA Credit w/o debt!  I have 75.00 a week direct deposited to my credit union 25.00 Savings, 25 Vacation Club , 25 christmas club, no need for a credit card, I have my credit union.

I pay my car payments weekly too now...never write a big check....even my house payment to my credit union...

  7. To improve your scores you need to keep your:

Credit card under 35% of the credit limit and have minimum of 4 accounts

    2 credit cards (revolving acc)

    1 mortgage or loan

Credit scoring software looks at five areas of your credit reports and uses these percentages as a guide:

    35% - Your Payment History

    30% - Amounts You Owe

15% - Length of Your Credit History

10% - Types of Credit Used

    10% - New Credit

  8. any  interest rate is a bad one. Why pay more for something the you've got to. Credit cards are bad!!!! Don't get anything unless you have the money to pay for it.
