I need a good crocheting project to keep busy. It's summer so I don't have much use for scarves and hats

  1. Marla's idea is good.  The colored bag is nice.  I'm keeping the link so I can make some after I've finished my Prayer Shawls.

  2. How about crocheting a market bag or a cell phone pouch.  Face cloths or dish rags go quick and are portable too.  I've started making snuggle rugs for the Humane Society for the cat cages this Summer.  Here's a link:  http://crochet.about.com/library/bifreep...

  3. Try afghans!

Like a "log cabin" style afghan or a ripple afghan.

Or you could try to make a bathing suit or halter top made of cotton yarn.

  4. if you do hats and scarves, you can sell them as the winter comes...

or little baby boots and jackets. baby stuff is great to do, as it's quite quick

handbag, laptop bag or phone bag?

    lacy tops

  5. Why not a Hackey-sack?! There's a video on Youtube that shows how to make one. And the guy's stoned, so it's pretty funny, too!

Just type in How to make a hacky sack. Have fun!

  6. Depends how good you are.

If you're just getting started, make a long chain to practice getting your loops to come out all the same size. When you're done, you can then turn your chain in a circle and make a big round throw-rug.

Or this thing. Dude, dice bag! http://www.allfreecrafts.com/crochet/soa...

  7. consider crocheting for charity. make little baby hats and booties, they are small, portable, and fast. Make small blankets for the Linus project, or for the cuddles project. This is a good way to practice your stitches, keeping your tension even, and using up your yarn ends.

Take on a difficult project, one that will take you through the summer, like a complicated shawl in a fine yarn. The fine yarn will keep it portable, the difficult pattern will keep you interested, and it will be light so you won't get too hot.

What about crocheting jewellry, using thread or fine cotton yarn? What about  a really cute belt, or summer scarf, made by linking floral motifs?

right now I am practicing sweaters by making a few baby sweaters, that will help me understand sweater construction, and I will have something to donate.

Check out www.lionbrand.com for good free patterns, or go to www.AnniesAttic.com.

  8. I found this pattern for a go green market bag 3 weeks ago and have already made 5. They crochet up in about 4 hours.

I also taught 5 girls at my daughters b-day party, June 17, basic crochet with this pattern. They each are making their own bag. Three girls have finished their bags the other 2 girls wigged out, but their stitches were even so I plan on finishing their bags.

I think these would sell well. I have had two people ask me to make them a couple.
