Question:

Good curfew?

I was researching many other answers and was very shocked by the time everyone suggested. I'm 14 years old and hang out with older people. (All my friends at the very youngest are 16 and at the oldest probably 19) I'm mature for my age. In the past I have made bad decisions with drugs and alcohol but Ive been cleaning up my act well. My ideal curfew is that I shouldnt have one. When I re-read that it sounds really childish and a naive thing to say but thats what I honestly believe. So if I'm going to have to come to an agreement I'll say 12 for the weekends & for week nights like 9 is fine. Possibly longer depending on the event [if my mother agrees]

How can I get my mom to agree with me?

  1. What could you be doing past 12 pm that is so important? I hang out at 1-4 am with some of my friends on the weekends, but this is because I WORK so many hours I have to find any and all times they are available. You dont work at fourteen.

Only thing you could be doing out past 12 or even till around 12 at 14 is getting into some sort of trouble. Why do parents have curfews? Because they dont want their kids comming home drunk at 4 in the morning.

10 pm on weekends untill you are 16, and then make it till 12. If you're going to a sleep over or going to be at a friend's house and the parents talk directly to your mother it can be extended. But you are WAAAYY too young to just say, "Hey i'm going out be back by 12."

  2. lol oh man....

did you just say you think you shouldn't have a curfew??

but i believe i just read in there something about alcohol and drugs.

sweetie lets face it. you're 14...

you don't negotiate with your parents rules. its disrespectful. plus it'll keep you out of trouble which you'll be grateful for later.

btw, that 9-12 thing isn't horrible for like a 16 year old...

and please PLEASE hang out with girls your own age.... its a waste to hang out with people like that... you'll never be able to bond with them and they're forcing you to grow up way too fast.

  3. 12  might be pushing it for the weekends, but you know. I had the same problem for a while too. My mom told me to go to bed at eight..sometimes seven!! I hated it. So, I sat her down and told her these facts.

    A. I'm not tired by that time.

    B. People my age are going to bed at three in the morning, so the least you could do us let me go to bed at nine.

    C. My age group only needs five hours of sleep according to scientific studys. I think it's five. It's eight for children, but I think for us it's five. When your an adult it's four.

    D. Tell her that your cleaning up your act, and as a rewards she should let you stay up.

    E. Good Luck! God Bless and stay off the drugs sweetheart.

  4. My house rules are that your curfew is whatever grade your in, for example 9th grade curfew is 9:00, 10th grade curfew is 10:00, 11th grade curfew is 11:00, 12th grade curfew is 12:00.  When your not living in your parents home and being supported by them and are capable of providing your own source of income and housing then you don't need a curfew.  If you've had problems with drugs and alcohol before, you need to really earn back trust from your parents, this will probably take awhile.  Please find friends your own age.
