My 12 year old niece is coming to live with me for a month, and i work. She said she would be into going to a day camp. She likes sports: Volleyball, Softball, Basketball, and Soccer. She likes cooking, and crafts. I could leave her at home, but for the rest of the time she is with me, i need something for her to do. She would enjoy anything appropriate for a 12 or 13 year old. I live in Dallas, Texas, but i need something that isn't Downtown, more North. I live near Midway and Royal. Thank you everybody!

  1. Is there a rec center in your area?  They may have activities that she'd like to do.

Do any of the churches in your area have activities?  Many do offer planned activities during the summer.

Here's a listing of summer camps from WFAA:  http://www.wfaa.com/sharedcontent/dws/sp...

    And from the DMN:  http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/...

    Good luck keeping her occupied!

  2. Look no further than the Y - both the day camp and Tsunganai go up to age 12.  Or check out Walnut Hill Rec Center.

There are wonderful sports camps, too, if you can transport her around.  ESD, St. Marks and other private schools in the area all have summer sports camps.

In addition look into Brookhaven Country Club.  I cannot see the exact age cutoff but my daughter had a blast at their summer camp - golf, tennis, swimming!

In addition, if you can provide some transporation, almost every club soccer team in town offers a summer camp.  Sting's camp is in two weeks, and you can do a search on Andromeda, Dallas Texans and so on to find camp dates, time, and locations.

The Dallas Summit volleyball club is also hosting camps.

Dallas is a great youth sports town - your niece might just walk away with some really great new skills.

  3. All I know about is the YMCA? Good luck.

You go, girl (McW). Good job - looks good in Firefox and IE browsers. Are you over "spike it girl"? You sound so mature now. I assume you were a V-baller. I like "Spiker McWilliams", or "Spike-it McWilliams". Anyhow, I had fun playing with your nickname. Have fun this summer.
