I am getting together with a few girlfriends tomorrow night and need a good dessert idea to take. I'd like to take something interesting but not terribly hard to make or really expensive to buy, thanks for any ideas!

  1. How about a trifle?  Layer chocolate cake, chocolate pudding, chopped Heath bars and cool whip.

Another favorite, but a bit more work would be a chocolate fondue!

  2. chocolate covered strawberries, chocolate covered pretzels, or strawberry shortcake!

  3. banana bread and ice cream

  4. I love to make fruit tarts - super easy - take a roll of sugar cookie dough, spread in the bottom of a cookie sheet (I use a round large but you could use a couple cake pans) cook as directed. Then take a tub of whipped cream cheese, cup of sugar and a teaspoon of vanilla, combine, spread on cookie after it's cool. Then I top with fresh fruits - usually strawberries and blueberries but strawberries have been hit or miss lately. I've also used kiwi and pineapple. Toss the fruit in sugar to make it shiny. It's really easy and always a huge hit!

  5. Strawberry shortcake--you can make the biscuits or buy those spongy ones, slice the strawberries just before you leave and mix in some sugar (they'll get mushy if you do it too far ahead, but you want some juice to come out so it has to be a little ahead), and buy a can of whipped cream to spray on top.  And strawberries are in season now, if you're in the northern hemisphere.

    Or make brownies (with walnuts--yum).

Or a simple fruit salad.  Here's one:

Fruit Salad with Honey and Rum

    Bon Appét*t | May 2000

Add a splash of Angostura bitters, a flavoring found in the supermarket's liquor section, for an intriguing spicy note.

    Makes 6 servings.

    3 tablespoons honey

    3 tablespoons dark rum

    1 teaspoon Angostura bitters (optional)

    1 large orange

1 large Fuji or Golden Delicious apple, unpeeled, cored, diced

    1 pear, unpeeled, cored, diced

    1 banana, peeled, sliced

1 cup seedless red and green grapes

    1 cup strawberries, hulled, halved

    1 cup raspberries and/or blueberries

Whisk honey and rum in large bowl to blend. Add bitters, if desired. Cut away peel and pith from orange. Working over same bowl, cut between membranes to release orange segments and juice into bowl. Mix in remaining fruit. Chill at least 30 minutes and up to 4 hours.

    Good luck.

  6. Chocolate molten cakes, these can be found in the freezer section of your grocery store or you can find recipes on line.  Serve topped with raspberries (fresh of frozen-thawed)  Mix raspberries with a little sugar to make syrupy.

Or Chocolate covered strawberries with Merlot.

  7. Fondue is really good, you can put the chocolate in a slow cooker if you dont have a fondue pot, that is what I do.  It is nice with fresh fruit, brownies, pound cake, marshmellows.  It is fun and different.  Or you can do the cheese fondue as well with crusty bread.  Enjoy and remember the napkins ;)

  8. If it's a girls night in, try a fun, easy, and somewhat junky combo. For a more formal desert, buy some fabulous ice cream. I recommend Ciao Bella ice cream. Their mint tastes fresh picked, and each fruit flavor tastes like it was on the vine only a minute ago. For some junky combos, that aren't really deserts, just fun snacks, try junior mints in popcorn, french fries dipped in a chocolate shake, a pickle between two Cheez-Its, or Fritos dipped in peanut butter with whipped cream on top. They all sound very strange, but are really very delicious. Try them!

Also, chocolate fondu is always fun, as well as chocolate covered strawberries.

  9. I would make an angelfood cake and have different fresh fruit and some whipped cream. Let everyone make their own dessert then. This will be acceptable for anyone on a diet as well as a diabetic.

  10. Ingredients:

18 oz. package of OREO Chocolate Sandwich Cookies

8 oz. package of Cream Cheese, softened *

16 oz. Semi-Sweet Baking Chocolate or Chocolate Chips, melted **

    Directions:

Crush the cookies into fine crumbs in a food processor or zip top bag.

Add softened cream cheese; mix until well blended. As my playgroup friend says, “until you have mud.”

Roll cookie mixture into balls, about 1-inch in diameter for full size truffles or 1/2 inch diameter for mini-truffles. I used a cookie disher for uniform sized balls.

Refrigerate until firm, about 30 minutes.

Melt the chocolate over a double boiler or in the microwave. Stir until smooth.

Roll the balls in chocolate to coat completely; use two toothpicks or forks to remove the balls from the chocolate, allowing the extra chocolate to drip off.

Place on a wax paper-lined baking sheet.

Refrigerate another 30 minutes until the chocolate forms a hard shell.

Store leftover truffles (if any) in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

  11. get 4 granny smith apples and cut them up

then chop 2 snickers bars into little pieces

add some raisins to this and mix

then mix it all up with one container of coolwhip

it is called snickers salad and it's so good but still good for you.

oh, and if you dont' like raisin you can leave those out of it.
