hi

i'm going to apply to study economics at Cambridge in 2009. Can you help me generate a list of books that i can read over the summer to give me "the edge"?.

it would be both to improve my knowledge of the subject and to show dedication and interest.

all answers are much appreciated.

  1. The Wealth of Nations maybe? It would definitely show dedication! In the same way, Keynes' General Theory could be an idea. Stiglitz is interesting, try Globalisation and its Discontents. Krugman seems pretty good too. I've read The Accidental Theorist which is well worth a look, and Peddling Prosperity is recommended in a textbook of mine. Come to think of it, the Oxford dictionary of economics has been really useful, that's well worth getting when you start.

    Good luck with the application!

  2. Read 'The Undercover Economist' by Tim Harford, and also 'The Truth about Markets' by John Kay.
