Question:

Good entry level sportbike with a lower budget?

I am considering purchasing a used sportbike with a budget of about 2000-4000 dollars. The models I am primarily interested in are the Suzuki Gsx-R and the Kawasaki Ninja. I am all about the looks that a sportbike delivers but I also dont really need the tons of power that they produce. I am wondering if these bikes will be too much for a beginner rider and if so what models should I look into purchasing. If the used route is not the way to go then what are the best new bikes around. I know little or nothing about motorcycle manufacturers so any insight will be appreciated.

Also note: I am only looking for a sportbike because of the looks. Please do not suggest any "cruising" types of bikes as they do not interest me.

  1. the 2008 Kawasaki ninja 250 is only 3499.00 and is an awesome bike for a beginner and beyond. check one out. you wont be sorry.

  2. For that price range you can get a nice 2005 or so GSXR600 or ZX6. Both are great bikes and the decision would have to be based on how well any prospective seller maintained the bike. You'd be better off buying directly from a private seller because the dealerships tack on all sorts of fees and stuff to turn a profit.

Regardless of what anybody says on Y!A, a 600 sport bike IS an entry level bike. Not everybody had training wheels! These bikes get around 30 to 47 MPG, top speed of about 165 and are very agile.

maintenance is low. Most riders do their own oil and filter change as well as other menial tasks like brakes, and coolant flush. Just last week I bought a FRAM filter and 4 Qts. for like $11. 30 minute job.

Just a note, any 600CC from any of the "big 4" will do just fine. they are so similar in performance, it would be a matter of what's available, how comfy it is, and price to quality comparison.

The "big 4" is Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda, and Kawasaki.

  3. I just bought the 08 zx-6r and I love it. Sticker is around 8500 if you have some credit you should definintly finance the 600. My friend bought the 650r which is similar to the 250 and he is already bored with the upright ride and 2 cylinder engine. I recommend definently going for the sports bike.

  4. A 250 ninja is a great beginner bike and will destroy a Harley 883 in 0-60 and the 1/4 mile.

  5. With $4000 for a used bike, I'd look for a Ninja ZX-7R, that's what I started out on.

  6. Look at the 250-500-650 Ninja and the Suzuki SV650s they all have handling and decent power but are INSURABLE !!  Talk to your insurance agent before you buy a bike.

  7. Most of the 250s are in your price range new.

    Dont buy someone elses problems

After you crash your new sport bike, you may have wanted soemthing a little less agressive.
