i should point out this car would be for my wife's use primarily. she doesn't know a lot about cars and wants me to sort it all out for her. she likes a relaxing drive, luxury (leather etc) and a bit of speed to it (OK, the speed bit is for when i drive it).

I was thinking, Volvo V70 (oh the shame?), a BMW 5 series or Mercedes E class estate.

other suggestions appreciated.

    Citroen C5 Estate HDI VTR

    Vauxhall Signum 2.0DTI Elegance

    Renault Laguna Sport Tourer 2.2Dci Expression

  2. The 5 series is the most accomplished, best built and most reliable of the three by a country mile.

    And as for the second answer - Mondeo? Vectra? Have a word with yourself!

  3. 07 plate Maibatsu landstakler

  4. The Volvo of course is the class car, The other two are yobs and drug dealers cars and I know as I have a series 5 and I'm always getting stopped by the police.

  5. BMW 530D Tourer with Auto trans which suits it well.  Nothing wrong with a V70, probably one of, if not the best, estates Volvo have made. But oh so dull to drive.

  6. Quite a budget you`ve got there...

    Audi RS4 Avant territory for that money.

    I wouldn`t bother with the Volvo as they are bland, dull and boring by comparison to the German trio suggested.

    Either way you`re going to get a car with lots of poke and lots of toys for that money.

  7. why dont you try the vauxhall vectra vxr or its not an estate but what about the vauxhall vxr8? yes i know ill get a lot of stick from all of these hard-core german motor lovers but its worth a look and youre looking at bmw m3-5 power for almost half the price there is even the zafira vxr if you really need the space www.vxr.co.uk hope this helps

  8. Hi

    I thoroughly recommend a good BMW 5 series. At your budget, you are able to afford probably the world's best engine, BMW's twin-turbo 3 litre diesel as seen in the 535d. Not only does this engine offer a very brisk 6.6sec 0-60 time, but also decent mid-30's mpg economy. You also have to consider that the BMW's are fitted with diesel particulate filters, thus putting them into lower tax bands, especially considering the car's size and weight.

    I myself own a 5 series, and have to say it is by far the best car I have ever owned, it is so smooth, and the auto 'box is fantastic (especially if your wife likes a relaxing drive). The interior is also bomb-proof and despite having done 30-000 miles in it, it hasn't once let me down. The seats hug you and keep you very supportive and are great for long journeys. For looks, it is probably best to go for an M-Sport BMW 5 series. The Run- Flat tyres get a lot of stick, but add the security knowing that if you were to get a puncture at motorway speeds, you could cruise into a slower lane and find the nearest garage with no hassle.

    I have found an ideal car for your purposes, check it out, hopefully you can see the link;
