Hello! I am Italian and I'm organizing my trip in your beautiful Capital. Can you help me with some things?

How is Holborn - Covent Garden ( near to King's Cross station ) to get an hotel? Is it a good zone to start visiting THE CITY? What can I see in 5 days? Thank you! and excuse me for my English!

  1. you can get cheap hotels in london like easyhotel.com

and theres a zoo, museums, london eye, big ben and loads of shops

  2. any place with your friends is good

  3. Yes, it's a good location. Quite central, good transport links. Although Kings Cross can be a little creepy at night.

You can see quite a lot. I'd recommend one day you walk from Picadilly, to Trafalgar Square, then down Whitehall to Big Ben and the House of Parliament. Ride the London Eye. And then walk along the park to Buckingham Palace. It's a lot of sight seeing but they're all in walking distance of each other.

    Also visit:

    St Pauls Cathedral

    London Dungeon

    Tower of London

    Monument

    Madame Tussaurds

National Gallery / National Portrait Gallery

    Hyde Park and Kensignton Palace

Buy a week long Travelcard for Zones 1 and 2 as most of the sights are within Zones 1 and 2.

Hope you enjoy London as much as I enjoyed Italy!!!

  4. Hi Cris. If you're unsure about what to see in London I'd suggest you get a visitors guide. To see most of the sites a better bet is to use the Big Bus tours which visit the major sites and you can get off at any that you feel you'd like to visit for a longer period. They also have guides that tell you about the various sites.

Hope this helps and have a great time in London.

  5. Welcome to London and I hope you enjoy your trip.

There is a lot to see so you will have five busy days in front of you. Many attractions are free, such as the Imperial War Museum, Natural History Museum, National Gallery etc but if you have some cash then the Tower of London and Madame Tussauds are well worth looking at. For the evenings a stroll around Leicester Square/Piccadilly Circus introduces you to the various entertainment attractions, or a walk down Whitehall and around the Westminster/Victoria area. Not forgetting Hyde Park and the river.

If you like shopping then Oxford Street will take up a lot of time as well as nearby Regent Street and Bond Street.

For travel I would recommend a day travel card which are about £5 after 9.30 and will include all buses and the underground. Try to avoid peak travel on the underground as it gets very crowded.

But certainly buy a small pocket-sized street map. They are invaluable. And you might find central London smaller than you think to stroll around. But as in any city, protect your valuables from pickpockets at all times.

    Hope you enjoy it here.

  6. accomodation - depends how much you want to spend, if you're going budget try looking at backpacker hotels / hostels, or easyhotel (stayed in one, very basic but fairly cheap)

also, get yourself an oyster card to travel around - it's basically a pay-as-you-go ticket for london transport (underground and buses) and the cheapest way

with regards to sightseeing - depends what you want to see! there's loads... london eye's good for a view across london; then there's shops (camden, oxford street), markets (borough food market is good), art galleries, museums (free entry mostly) - get a guide book and plan!
