To make a long story short, she ranted for five minutes about how angry she was about NPR comparing the emotional appeal in Palin's GOP speech to Obama's emotionally appealing speeches and went on to claim that anyone voting for Obama was "uneducated" and didn't "care about our government or our country." She claimed anyone voting for Obama was doing it because Ludacris told them too (!!) and then went on and on to say that talk radio was primarily made up of conservative republicans and that the only people listening to talk radio were the intelligent people - "conservatives." I found the entire five minutes made my ears burn. As a highly educated individual in the scientific community, I am appalled at her gross generalizations of Obama supporters/Democrats and listeners of NPR. I've known her for most of my life and it would take a LOT (not this, most likely) to make me write her off completely, but I definitely had to defend myself and most others in the group she stereotyped ignorantly. Was I wrong to respond? It was an online blog that many of her friends (including myself) follow. I couldn't believe the atrocity of things she said. I just had to respond.

  1. Your friend is a clot. It's the other way around. Republicans traditionally go for the Bible Belt, where neo-cons live to d**n all of us to h**l in the name of Jesus. Traditionally not an enlightened lot. They name their kids Cletus,Cleavon, Cooter, girls names have Billie or Bobby hypenated with Jo or Lynn, etc.

    Replace her.

  2. Politics makes people do strange things.

It's the national version of "crazy hour", but it goes on for months.

I would write the experience off as a momentary lapse.  She's likely still a good friend, she just lost it for a few minutes.  She's entitled - someday it might even happen to you.

  3. We are all entitled to an opinion,no matter how wrong or stupid it may be and true friends are friends,in spite of differences of opinion in religion or politics. You may wish to engage your friend in a debate which is friendly, not hostile and less intense. You may even find that there is some foundation to her argument, who knows what may happen!
