  1. Depending on the person, their age, and their feelings about their diabetes, I'm not sure that giving a present to mark the anniversary of diagnosis would be something to be celebrated. Diabetes is a daily struggle and considered a disability of sorts. However, if you were celebrating 5 years of great control and no medical up and downs that might be different. It all comes down to the person and how they feel about their disease process.

Personally, for me it would be like celebrating the day I got my 1st period ... the chicken pox ... and ... you get the picture.

  2. For many years, my sister-in-law got me a box of Frookies -- cookied made with Fruit Sugar.

But then again, being diabetic doesn't bother me -- mentally that is.  If your friend is upset about the diagnosis, it may be a good idea just to let the whole thing pass unnoticed.

I mean, would YOU want people celebrating the day you were told you had cancer??

  3. Why would you celebrate that day?  I'm trying to FORGET the day I was diagnosed, thanks.  August 13th.  WORST DAY OF MY LIFE.  God, don't mention it, maybe then they'll be happy!
