Good gift for friend coming from India..?

A friend from India is coming to US to study his masters... I wanted to surprise him somehow with a gift or just anything special to do with him but I have no idea what he might like because of the culture difference. He's also 22...

Give him a bouquet of nice colourful flowers when you're receiving him. Then take him to a dinner or lunch or breakfast in an hotel. And also, being 22 is like being an adult. So these   two ideas will do better.... Gifting someone at this time would be a childish thought (though it's good)..... Hope my answer helped....

You could take him out for a nice dinner (and if he's a party animal then a night club). Pay for him on that one day. You could introduce him to a few friends over barbecue as well.

When i first went to the U.S i was terribly lonely. I remember my husbands colleaugue( who had never met me before) took me out for lunch and shopping. We became very good friends and i never forgot her kindness. She later threw me a baby shower and i was most honored.

A "gift" is childish unless its a birthday or a farewell present. They (she and the American friends i made later) gave me an expensive desk clock with a message engraved (from Things remembered) and a silver charm bracelet with my baby's name on my farewell last year .

I've met alot of Indians who study abroad and there's really no "culture barrier" or whatever...they pretty much like the same stuff. I think maybe you should think about giving him something from YOUR culture or anything you specialize in. For instance in Australia there are really good aussie pies and cheese and wine so I offer that to guests who have just visited. Hope this helped.
