  1. Wal-Mart isn't the best place to spend your money in my opinion. I'd hop online and order a Garmin Geko. Basic and great GPS!

  2. If I get into Geocaching, I'll be picking up the Lowrance H2O iFinder with the color display.

It is what we use on the boat for bass tournaments, has TONS of waypoint, and backtrack navigation features, killer color bright display, nice size screen, waterproof, and great battery life, can use various SD pre-loaded map cards, comes with software for PC use, etc...

Seems to take a beating in harsh weather condtions, and keeps us from getting lost, even in some THICK foggy mornings.

You might try Cabelas or Bass Pro shops too. They sell lots of GPS/ Navigation equipment and have plenty of handy customer reviews.

Actually, I'm off to check the price on it now.

Magellan has some new orange ones out now, that I would AVOID. They are having some issues, and people that bought them are not happy.

  3. Save about 30 more dollars and you can buy a brand new Magellan Explorist 210. Got one from Wal-mart 2 days ago for 129.00

  4. Spend a tiny bit more money.  For $115 from Amazon.com, you can get the Garmin eTrex Venture HC.  It has a color screen and 24MB of memory if you ever want to install topo or road maps.  It also comes with a USB cable.  A lot of computers don't have a serial port anymore, and if you buy an eTrex H ($85) or blue eTrex Legend ($100 or so), you have to use a serial cable (and possibly a serial-to-USB adapter) to connect the GPS receiver to the PC.  Computer connectivity is important because that makes it a lot easier to send cache coordinates to your GPS receiver.  Trust me, it's much faster and easier than having to manually punch everything into your GPS receiver.  That's how I got started with geocaching.
