Question:

Good hand to hand martial arts?

What's a good martial arts style to start around 14 almost 15. I want to do something that is more hand to hand. Nothing like Ju-Jitsu which is mostly grapples and ground fighting.

Eventually, In time. I want to be able to spar/fight like the Kung-Fu masters in movies. (:

The way the fight is so amazing, they can dodge and block any attack and break bricks. I mean..pfft, cmon'. Totally bad ***

Also, I see on youtube videos of people jumping reallyy far gaps, back and front flipping off houses/walls and just really cool; Almost Ninja stuff like that. How do they do that?

I know they do something, spend years and are pro's and what not.

But just what is it?

  1. from what I've seen Muay Thai is more hand to hand combat. The Art of Eight Limbs or some thing like that. You use your fists, elbows, knees, and shins to strike.

  2. the only way you will be able to "spar/fight" like a "movie kung fu guy" is:

IN THE MOVIES- become an actor, learn film martial arts, take some courses that teach you flashy acting martial arts moves and get on the casting couch to break into film.

movies differ from reality mainly in that the job of the actor is to portray to the audience so the audience knows what they are doing- they use OVERT movements to telegraph the action to viewers.

real fighting uses COVERT movements which you hide your intentions to better have a chance at striking your opponent thus it doesn't make very good viewing unless you know what you are watching.  even then you dont see it like a telegraphed move.

the real key to being a good fighter is TRAINING METHODOLOGY- the guys you see and are lifting on a pedastol are not using real training methodology- they use movie safeguards to prevent injury.

if you tran realistically (against resisting opponents) then you will learn.

  3. Muay Thai

If you want to do moves like that then you should take up gymnastics and acting and forget hand to hand martial arts.

  5. i would suggest Systema or Wing-Chun,both work very efficiently and are applicable to modern [street combat]. i have seen the tumbling and leaping between buildings, its not martial arts, more applicable to gymnastics.sorry i dont know the name of it .

  6. The grapples and ground fighting I'd suggest you think is mainly ju-jitsu will most probably be (Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, which actually is mainly derived from judo) and should not be confused with Japanese Jiu-jitsu which includes strikes and self defence and street smart techniques and also Kobudo ( weapons art )

Btw: The stuff you see re: people jumping between gaps flipping off walls etc is not martial arts related they are gymnastics, and acrobatics and very dangerous.

If my assumption's in your thinking are wrong then I apologise young man.

  7. hung gar is one of the most popular styles in china, over 100 movies were made about wong fei hung (once upon a time in china is one of them) it is a shoalin 5 animal/5 element tiger crane system.

go to youtube and type in bagua applications, or any other style you want to get an idea of, like tai chi, wing chun, yi chuan, the most important thing is to find a sifu who knows the fighting applications. pick a school that has a class atmosphere you like, and a style you love so you will stick to it and work your *** off to become effective.

the jumping over stuff and doing flips while running through the city is called parkour, some sifus will spot you to learn flipping, but if you want to do that stuff you might want to look into gymnastics because thats where most of them start.

  8. Hi there

I recommend you learn the hand to hand system of point n click jutsu. Its creating quite a storm on yahoo answers and is practiced by 90 percent of the people on here. Suppliment this with training courses run by youtube and top up with a few episodes of the UFC and you will be a master in only a few minutes!

With point n click jutsu you will be able to disarm your attacker with only a few key strokes all from the comfort of your own home!

    Best wishes

  9. Put all the chips on the table. Do you want a traditional martial art like Karate or Kung Fu or something for situational self defense? Here's what I'm trying to say: Traditional martial arts will promote self-esteem, learning some cool moves, a bigger ego ect. But is you learn some real hand-to-hand combat skills without competitions and forms/katas I would suggest something like Krav Maga that teaches you how to react in fights or life threatening situations. Over the course of the last 10 years if I could do it all over again I'd unlearn all the nonsense of traditional martial arts and stick with strictly self-defense.

  10. that's XMA If U Want to do All Those Ninja Things Or whatever U Kno Like Stuff That Looks Cool Then Find A School That Offers XMA

and For A Hand To Hand Style Muay Thai Or Boxing

I Would Say Wushu But That's Just Flashy Hand Combinations Even Tho That's What You see In Kung Fu Movies

  11. haha good one idai not far off the mark either but i would say more like 95-98% of ppl on here are armchair warriors and practise point and click jutsu.

  12. km

  13. Learn Ninjutsu. We don't go around doing flips and jumping off of walls so don't expect that. It's a combat martial art so you don't waste any energy doing useless flips to make things look pretty.
