  2. Calvert and Oak Meadow are boxed curriculums with easy to follow lesson plans.  If you need an umbrella/cover school, either of these choices would be great!

  3. I did Brigham Young University's correspondence high school courses, which my college accepted as perfectly valid.

  6. There is an awesome Curriculum called "Connect the Thoughts".  I started using it with my daughter last year.  There is curricula available for children from 8 years old to adult.  They have new curricula available for younger kids too.  It was designed for home schooling families.  Using it, your student will learn to research, question, and think for themselves.  There are many subjects available including history, science, art, music, creating writing, etc.

It is available by immediate download throught Currclick at the following link:

I can't say enough about this curriculum.  My daughter would not write more than a few words on paper.  After starting Connect the Thoughts, Creative Writing, I can't stop her now.  She is working on a novel!

  7. This is pretty subjective. It depends on what you are looking for in a curriculum. Are you looking for something on-line? Book based? What?

For us we use Sonlight (www.sonlight.com) Math U See (www.mathusee.com) and Apologia Science. We also use A Reason For Handwriting, Handwriting Without Tears and Explode the Code.

K12 is a good on-line program as is Penn Foster. There is American School of Correspondence, Christian Liberty Press, Abeka,  ACE, and I could continue. All have their weak points and their strengths. It's up to you to decide what is best for you and your family.

  8. I love the Oak Meadow Social Studies/English/Art as it is all combined, and the projects are really fun.  I just get the curriculum for the oldest child, and then scale down the workload to the appropriate age.

We use Modern Curriculum Press for math.  The workbooks and logical flow of skills works really well for us.  The Calvert math books were too dry for my kids, but I thought they offered a solid foundation.

We also found a Latin curriculum called Minimus that the kids loved.

There is also life - the lessons they learn every day while helping to cook, do laundry,  go shopping, paying bills, making phone calls, etc.

Hope you have a great year!

  9. Depends what grade(s) you will be teaching and if you are looking for secular or bible based. Will you be doing the teaching yourself or do u want it to be online? I like K12.com and Connectionsacademy.com for free online public schools. Bible based I like BJU, Sonlight, and Abeka. Secular I like Homeschool Curriculum Shop and Core Curriculum. You can also check your local library for materials too depending on the budget you are on. Good luck to you and your family.
