3 girlfriends and myself will be travelling to Varadero, Cuba from May 2-May 9, 2008. We are all 19 years old, and are looking to go to a hotel that is more a "party" place over relaxing and quiet. Somewhere where younger kids go to...(19-21). A hotel with awesome animation staff (and good food) as well. I was just wondering if anyone has any good advice about the hotels in Varadero? Hotels to go to, hotels not to go to, preferably on the MAIN STRIP. ANY HELP is much appreciated! :)

  1. Yes there are. One is the Paradisus Varadero (Sol Meliá chain). It's a 5* resort and is of excellent quality. The Animación Team at these resorts are amazing and well trained...the entertainment is top quality, the food, accomodations, etc.

Another is Meliá Varadero with the same amenities as Paradisus.

I haven't been to Tryp Peninsula Varadero (but I have been to Tryp Cayo Coco which is an amazing resort). But friends of mine went to this one and said they had a great time there.

They're all located in the main area about a few minutes away from the main center of Varadero.

You will never go wrong with the Sol Meliá chain. See the links below for the hotel descriptions for what you may prefer.

But whatever you do, make sure you book a hotel that is no less than a 4* to ensure good quality of everything.

And if you can, try to get your room booked on at least 2nd or 3rd floors and avoid 1st floor rooms.

Somtimes these rooms tend to be more damp and maybe musty because of it being right on the beach (and being a tropical place)....high humidity. Just a suggestion.

Have an amazing time in Cuba.

  2. Personally The Bella Costa (Breezes).  the animation staff is so awsome. the hotel is beside the best club in varadero, the staff take you clubing every night after the show.  the staff is working all day getting people to do stuff, they organize things on the beach, by the pool, and put on a show every night.  the closer you are to teh heart of varadero the sketchier the hotels are (niceness, security)  and the hotels that are the ferthest are the nicest but for honeymooners and couples plus they are the most expencive.  Bella Costa's right in the middle, plus they just had a massave renovation where they closed the resort for eight months.  Haven't seen it yet but I'll be there April 1.  HAVE FUN IN CUBA!!!!

  3. Paradisus Varadero is the best, I just got back from there last Sunday. The rest of the resorts in Varadero look like garbage in comparison.

But honestly it doesn't live up to 5 star ratings either, a 5 star in cuba is like a 3 or 4 star here. Even though it's cheaper than anywhere else you'll find, it's not worth the money in my opinion.

The food isn't great and you are likely to get diahhrea (3 out of 4 people in my family), but honestly no matter where you go in Cuba that's going to happen to you. I don't know if it was poor health regulations (cats walking the restaurant every night, birds landing on the buffet) or if our bodies just aren't used to it. I didn't even drink the tap water, I only used it to brush my teeth.

Also the air conditioner in my parent's room didn't work until they flipped the breaker themselves, front desk just gave a lame excuse about the door not being closed.

The toilet in my room randomly stopped working for a day straight, while in the room next to me it was fine. The next morning it started working again on it's own somehow.

My advice? Don't go to Cuba at all. There is no "great" place to go or stay.

And DONT go into Varadero or Havana even on tours.... nothing but slums and beggars touching you (!) and hassling you for an entire day...

On a more positive note, the shows/music are amazing at Paradisus and all the Cuban people are really friendly.
