Good indoor plants??

Question

I am moving into a college dorm, and i wanted to buy a small plant for my room. But i have no idea what i should buy.

I have a spider plant now. its okay. but i was looking for something a little different. Something more appealing to the eye, i suppose?

My friend suggested an African Violet. does anyone else have a good suggestion for a nice indoor plant? Any help would be really appreciated.

Bamboo is nice, just stand it in gravel and water in indirect light, easy to care for.

these are nice http://www.flowershopnetwork.com/flower-... they can get big and really long shoots that you can hang all the way around your room!
