What are some of the inexpensive yet safe neighbourhoods in Sydney? I am looking to move to Sydney after a job.

  1. Basically all of Sydney is fairly expensive - you might need to give some more information as to an approximate budget, Sydney is a big place. Also if you know where your job might be that would help, and how long you would be prepared to travel to get there. It's quite normal in Sydney to travel an hour or more to get to work.

Nearly all of Sydney is also quite safe.

  2. Sydney is pretty expensive. Houses range from $200k (for a really modest house in a really rough area) to about $30m (for a massive house in a really nice area).

    Apartments from $100k to $15m+.

  3. Here are some safe, not-crazy-expensive but hip neighborhoods to look into to get you started.

For a cafe lifestyle: Surry Hills, Paddington, Rozelle, Glebe

For an alternative hipster lifestyle: Newtown

For a multicultural restaurant lifestyle: Leichhardt

For a beach lifestyle: Bondi, Bronte, Manly (or Cronulla but it's further from the city).

My personal pick would be the first five, because they're close to the city, hip, pleasant and not yet as crazy expensive as some parts. Hope this helps.
