Good info on adoption?

Im 22 and single, also am thinking of adopting maybe by 25yrs - 30yrs old, i want a child not a baby one that is at least 4-6yrs old.

Im looking into it more now so when the time comes in a few years i know what im doing and how to do it.

Do you know of any good sites or information on adopting??

Do you have to be a certain age to adopt? can you be single and adopt?

I want to give a child a loving home and give (s)he a life (s)he deserves.

I want to have children and i dont think i will find a man in the next 3-4 years and if i do, i have PCOS and it will be hard for me to get pregnant (my cycles are very irregular and i get my period every 3-4 months sometimes longer),

i would have to try for a year and then if that doesnt work then IVF and then going through the h**l of IVF and sometimes it doesnt even work and its expensive.

Whats the point doing all that when theres children in orphanages and unwanted children needing a home.

  3. I think you need to do some research on the experience of adoptees.  You seem to be under the impression that only foster children look for their biological families.  The truth is, adopted children also look for their biological families.  Those who search aren't searching because of their feelings towards their adoptive parents.  They search because of a desire to find out about where they came from.  If you can't be okay with that, then adoption might not be for you.

I'm not trying to attack you.  I just want  you to be prepared for the realities of the situation you are looking for.  The more research you do, especially on adoptees' experience, the better prepared you will be.  And the better off both you and any child you adopt will be.

    Some books to read:

"Being Adopted: The Lifelong Search for Self" by Brodzinsky, Schecter, and Henig

"The Primal Wound" by Nancy Verrier

    Also, read adoptee blogs.

Also, many older kids who might be adopted are likely to have spent time in foster care.

    Good luck to you.

  5. Good luck with answers to this question, because you might get trashed talked by people who appose adoption.

I asked similar questions and apparently I am a horrible person...
