  1. Go with Canon. I'm in the UK, and my PowerShot cost me £70 with a printer. It's an amazing camera. 5MP, fantastic sensor (even more important than the megapixel rating - don't let anyone tell you otherwise... A 10MP camera made by Techosonik [insert other generic name here] will be much much worse than a 5MP Canon) and great macro function.

EDIT: The lens is very important too, but again, you can't go wrong with a Canon.

Canon PowerShot's for less than $200 (£100) are fairly easy to find over here. Try this link I found:

  2. Pami is right cyber shot is good with graphics and its worth the price

  3. I'd go with the Sony Cybershot.   There are different models  and price ranges, you may find one that fits your price range.  Best Buy caries them and you can try them out in the store and ask questions.  I personally like the 8.1 w/5x optical zoom.

  4. Sony DSC W110 is a very low priced camera but pretty much the best in it's price-range. 2.5" TFT screen, video recording + audio recording, many different image filters, macro is amazing, the quality is super fine and yeah, pretty much a cool first camera to get.

  5. The Canon Power Shot SD 870 IS is good and it's just a lil' over $200.  That was one of my husband's gift for Father's Day.  He loves it and takes great pictures.  It's 8 mp. It comes in different colors and the menu is easy to go through.

If you decide later on the get a more expensive camera, say about $400, I recommend the Sony Cyber Shot Carl Weiss 10.1 mp.  The one I have is the one that can turn on by sliding down the front cover of the camera to uncover the lens. It comes in silver, black and red (the one I have is red).  It has all kinds of features like face recognition, smile recognition (as soon as it recognizes a smile it takes pictures and doesn't stop until you change the setting, it even does it in group pics), you can add "frames", sparkle, stars and all kind things to the pictures and save them.  You can even put smiles in peoples faces when they don't smile.  It has slide feature with 8 different background music choices to use when viewing you slide show in the camera screen, all of this just through the touch screen menu.  And a ton more features.  You don't have to plug it into a computer or anything to do all of this!!!  I absolutely LOVE IT!!

I hope I was of help.

  6. my preference is the sony cybershot.  they are a little more on the expensive side, but well worth every penny.

for under 200 you should be able to get a fairly decent digital camera.  I can't recommend on myself, because I have a 400 camera (12mpx cybershot).  But, if you have a best buy near you, its really easy just to go play with them and check them out.  The sales assistants there are very helpfull too.  Tell them what you will be using the camera for and what features you would like, and they will be able to point you in the right direction.

  7. a great camera under that price is hard to find. maybe ebay or craigslist.com. no matter what you do go with CANON. they are the best. :)
