Good strong reliable laxative?, recommendations needed?

Been on codeine pain meds for a bad knee and now I'm bunged up

I have slight piles / heameroids? so want something that really "liquifies" to get me cleaned out, then I can regulate with fiber and fruit.

Whats good for a good non cramping blowout ?

I can spend time close to the loo tomorrow so don't mind what.

Recommendations on experience please.

PS

I'm not now pregnant or breastfeeding

  1. When i had this i used a normal laxative.

Took it at about 3pm and by 9/10pm ... You know =)

And i only drank 1 glass of water.

If you drink alot of water, you won't have to strain either.

Otherwise like someone said above you can get Sedicot max and stuff.

Really up to you but a own shop laxative worked fine for me (boots)

Hope things improve for you. xx

  2. in my experience, ex lax does a pretty good job of liquifying any blocked matter. there is some cramping and i needed to take slightly more than the recommended dose. there is slight cramping at first but it clears up pretty soon

  3. dulcolax

  4. Get a few cans of prunes in syrup.

A natural laxtive and does a brilliant job. It also helps your system on a whole!

  5. when i struggle to go i put a tea spoonful of linseed's on my breakfast cereal, or on a salad. these work for me , there is no side effects just helps you go . you can get them from health food shops good luck

  6. Syrup of figs. works a treat.

  7. Senakot Max - Take 1 at bedtime, you'll be raring to go in the morning.

Unless you are one of those ultra-sensitive souls who sniffs a prune and has to visit the bathroom, taking one tablet of the regular strength Senakot won't do the job.

Talking of prunes though, 5 a day with your breakfast (the dried but still squishy ones) will get you on the daily track.

  8. Fibregel is a natural laxative you just mix with a glass of water. Its natural husk doesn't purge you.

  9. Well apart from drugs I would try prunes and weetabix!

  10. do a salt water flush. Mix up a load of salt in some water ( as much as you can physically stand without gaging on it. make sure you drink at least one large cup full, but do as much as you can. Then just wait...... it can take anywhere betweem 15 minutes and 5 hours to work, but there is no cramping at all and it will completely flush you out and your colon!

make sure you put alot of salt in otherwise it wont work

    good luck!

  11. Vinegar, lemon juice and honey.

    or metamucil

or cup of coffee (if you don't normally drink coffee)

or stay away from high fat foods till you feel better

  12. Fibercon worked wonders for me!!!

  13. lactulose always works for me and my kids!

  14. I buy a medicine called "lactulose" over the counter at our local pharmacy.

It works very well, you cant overdose on it either - but obviously,I wouldn't recommend that you down the whole bottle or anything! - but you can take a little extra if things dont seem to be moving.

It works by drawing fluid to your bowel to soften the stool.

Drink a lot of water and some freshly squeezed orange juice (for some reason, the "from concentrate" stuff just doesn't work as well).

Also, if you get a chance, take a long warm bath.

P.S. Anything containing "senna" works by causing the bowel to cramp up (therefore trying to force the stool out) - if you're already fairly constipated, this HURTS!
