Question:

Good med for rapid cycle or hormonally related bipolar?

I have rapid-cycling bipolar which seems to coincide with my menstrual cycle. I have about 5 days of mania beginning during the middle of my period, followed by a garden variety of depression/anger days. As it is I have to take progesterone for 10 days a month to induce a period. I have tried many bipolar meds, including lithium, depakote, lamictal, abilify, also in combination with many many antidepressants. All they do is take away my manic times so I am depressed, angry, suicidal all the time. Right now I'm not on any meds (at least I get to be happy 5 days of the month!). Has anyone had a similar experience with monthly rapid cycling and found a good med?

  1. I would try Fluoxetine(Prozac) I had a similar problem and it changed my life for the better. it takes away all the Anger, sadness,OCD,Suicidal thoughts......Everything..I would try it. Talk to your doctor about it. It's really good stuff..I've been on it for 7 years..

  2. Could birth control pill help with your period? I mean, you say that you have to induce it but I guess I never heard of a problem like that before... If  you can take them, Yaz is really good at keeping hormone levels stable so that may help.
