I have seen: The madness of king george, elizabeth, the one about victoria who was depressed after Albert died. I have not seen "the queen".

Can you give me any others that are good? I love period films that are based on history.

  1. The BBC miniseries "The Six Wives of Henry VIII" is really good. They also did one called "Elizabeth R". And  "The Queen" will give you a real appreciation of the difficulties of her job. "Anne of the Thousand Days" with Richard Burton and Genevieve Bujold is a good one, so is "The Lion in Winter".

There are a lot of old period films, but most of them are very "Hollywoodish", and have gorgeous costumes, but very thin on historical accuracy.

  2. The Queen movie is really good. I love the movie. I would recommend it to every one who is interested in the British royal family

  4. Danelady's movie suggestions are great ~ I loved The Lion in Winter, and also Anne of the Thousand Days.

The Queen is *excellent*, anyone who is interested in the royals would enjoy it, especially if you remember the period around the time of Princess Diana's death.

Another one I've always liked is 'Mrs Brown', about the relationship between Queen Victoria and her scottish gamekeeper, 'Mr Brown'. It is not only a wonderful slice of history but also shows the cruelty underlying much of the victorian 'moral' code.

Here's a website which lists many (if not most) historical movies about royalty in England and elsewhere, along with reviews of most of them:
